As promised, here is a sneak-peak at the audio version of Equal Partners (just for my substack readers) narrated by Suehyla El-Attar Young. This is the first 5 minutes of Chapter 1. Enjoy!
I honestly don’t remember the exact day I started this project, but I do remember writing my first ideas for Equal Partners from my bedroom chair in our old apartment. We moved in July 2017, which means that this process has taken at least 5 years.
But it all felt very real when I got my box from the publisher a few days ago. I probably should have jumped for joy, but - honestly - my first reaction was to sit down and cry. And then I talked to Amanda Annis (agent extraordinaire) and then I had a beer. It was only then that I pulled myself together long enough to take this picture.
And a week from today - on June 28 - Equal Partners will be available to everyone! If you are interested and willing, here are several ideas of how you can help. And this doesn’t just go for my book. These are helpful tips for any author/book you want to support.
Order a copy for yourself: Pre-orders are a huge help, because they count towards Week 1 sales. You can get Equal Partners from an online retailer or your favorite local bookstore. It is available in hard copy, audiobook or digital.
Call your local bookstore(s): There are hundreds of new books out every week, and it is hard for booksellers to know what to stock. So call your local bookstore(s) and encourage them to stock Equal Partners in their store.
Leave a (great) review: Amazon and Goodreads reviews matter. So when you do read your copy, if you’re willing, please leave a positive review and rating.
Buy a copy for a friend: We all know it is easier to establish good practices from the beginning, so Equal Partners is well-timed for people experiencing big milestones: moving in together, marriage, new baby, or new grandbaby! I’ve always thought that this book would make a great shower gift.
THANK YOU!
The B-Team Standard
In honor of my book’s birth day, I am writing a 40-day blog series about caregiving called The B-Team Standard. I’ll post the first entry on June 28, and then one each day for the following 39 days.
The inspiration for this series comes from my mom and her friends, who affectionately refer to themselves as the B-Team. These women would probably tell you that the way they treat their friends is just what people do. But after growing up and leaving the protective bubble of childhood, I quickly realized that the B-Team is the exception, not the rule. Gathering ideas from them and others, this blog series will talk about the ways we - not just women, but people of all genders - can take care of each other.
I decided on 40 days in honor of the EP40 - the men whom I interviewed for Equal Partners. Each one of the EP40 is an amazing caregiver, so I thought it appropriate that each post would be in honor of one of them.
Stay tuned! I’ll send out the link with this newsletter next week.
See you on Launch Day! If you are reading this, it means you are one of my most staunch supporters. So, THANK YOU. This book is the collective effort of so many people, and I appreciate each and every one of you.
So proud of you Kate! This is exciting! I just purchased a pre-order copy! Congratulations!
This is so exciting!! I’ve learned so much from you about this topic and very much looking forward to reading the book and sharing copies with others!
