Thanks for being a parent who helps your children focus on and sense the importance of the electoral process, and the value of recognizing and respecting diversity. Change will occur one, or in this case two, little people at a time.

With the hustle and bustle of life pre-covid, the families on our block knew in an instant that life was about to change overnight last March. I am grateful for your question and I’d like to say that as a neighborhood we have banded together equally to support each other. Moms, dads, kiddos - our block was transformed into a new definition of family and its working. A vibrant text chain that’s always busy, nightly outdoor cocktail hour with physical (not social) distancing in effect. So much so that we TALK about it. Your articles warm me because you focus on equal. You focus on being loud and proud about respect. And, yes, we celebrated (the entire block) as a “family” on election night, too!

We've all certainly learned a lot through COVID and the 2020 Presidential election, both unprecedented and both with enormous benefits for all Americans and for our country going forward in spite of the suffering and angst. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too, Kate, and thank you for this insightful and thoughtful post that affirms for me what Helen Keller said many years ago that's still true today: "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through the experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved."
